Old Fashioned Green Trains on New Sanya Special Tourism Train Route

Sanya is opening a new special tourism train route between the Sanya Train Station and Yazhou Station on the West Line. Old fashioned green train cars will operate the new route, which is expected to ease transportation congestion especially during high tourism season in the popular tourist destination city located at the southern end of the tropical island province of Hainan.

Although now these old fashioned green train cars are rarely seen in China, they used to be the main way to travel between most Chinese cities. Although they aren't as fast as the modern high speed trains that now run circles around the island of Hainan, riding these green trains is a great way to get a glimpse into China's past, and take a leisurely ride through Hainan's beautiful scenery.

Trains will run every day between the hours of 7 AM and 7 PM, with trains leaving every half hour. There will be a total of 6 stops on the route, which will give travellers a chance to see the countryside around Sanya as they travel by train. The total length of the route is 46.08 kilometers, with stops at: Yanglan, Phoenix International Airport, Tianya Haijiao (The End of the Earth), Hongtang Bay, Nanshan Temple Park, and Nanbin Farm.

The new rail route is expected to begin operation to the Nanshan stop by National Day (Oct. 1), and the End of the Earth stop should open by the end of the year. Ticket prices for the route have yet to be announced.
