Hainan Duty Free Sales Up

Duty-Free sales on the Chinese tropical island of Hainan increased by 24% year-on-year in February, compared to a 6.2% year-on-year increase in January of this year. The dramatic increase is likely due to a new policy which came into effect Feb. 1, 2016. The new policy raised the maximum duty free purchase limit from 8,000 to 16,000 RMB per purchase – doubling the value of goods that could be purchased by visitors to the island. Sales are expected to be higher through the rest of the year as well, as travellers take advantage of the generous new Hainan duty free sales policy.

There are plenty of places to get your duty free shopping done on Hainan. Of course there are large duty free shops in both Haikou and Sanya's International Airports. What you might not realize though, is that the world's largest duty free mall is also located in Hainan! The Haitang Bay Duty Free Shopping Center, located in Sanya, has 70,000 square meters of space, all dedicated to duty free. Shoppers can choose from hundreds of international brands and shops, including Gucci, Burberry, Chanel, Prada, Rolex, Giorgio Armani, and more.
